Boys Cargo Pants {sew along day 3}

Well today we are going to finish up our boys cargo pants. I am kind of sad that the sew along will be over. It was fun we will have to do it again. So we will pick up where we left off. Incase you are just joining us now check out...

 So now we will do the waistband, finished details and then we are done!

 So for the waistband. If you are using a pattern (like the nowhere man pants) You can use the waistband from the pattern. Or you can make a super easy waistband that will look perfect with the faux fly. With a tape measure measure the waist of the pants. Then add 2 inches for overlap. Cut a strip the length of the strip and for these pants I made it 3 inches wide. Then pin the waistband to the top of the pants. Have the strip overlap in the front with the edges folded under. Match up the overlap to meet up with the faux fly. Then sew it to the waistband.

 Press the waistband upward and then turn the top edge under about 1/4 an inch.

 Then fold the waistband in half. Sew along the bottom edge of the waistband sewing from side seam to side seam across the back. Then put elastic in the casing in the back.

 Once the elastic is to your liking, secure the elastic on both sides. Then finish sewing the waistband along the front.

 Now for the belt loop pieces. Fold both edges in toward the middle.

 Then stitch two lines to secure the edges.

 Then press the top and bottom under.

 Sew along the top and bottom to the pant.

 Next I made some little button tabs for the front of the pants. (not part of the pattern making) A simple curved edge piece.

 I folded it in half and sewed along the curved edge. Clip the curve.

 Then turn the piece right side out.

 Place it on the pant and and sew along the raw edge.

 Then fold it over and top stitch in place. Add a button and you have yourself some cute button tabs.

 Now hem the bottom of the pants by turning under the bottom edge and sewing it in place. I made Jude's pants extra long to give it a nice thick hem, that way I could let them out as he grows since he grows up like a weed and never grows out. (seriously his waist is the size of Abbey's)

 Then your pants are done! Whew!

Not too bad right? Hopefully your little guy (or big guy) likes them as much as Jude did he has worn them everyday since I made them.

 With tons of pockets to hold his "cool things"

 and detail stitching to make them look cool while maintaing comfort,

I can't really blame the kid for wanting to wear them everyday... I would too :)
