Planting for Fall {How to make your garden pop}

I don't know about you but I love the look of flower gardens, and there is nothing more rewarding than having some great curb appeal. A couple problems with this love... I don't have a green thumb (at all) and I have no idea what to plant. Lucky for me I married a man who LOVES to garden and his best friend? A landscape arcitect. It's a sweet set up :) So when I got the chance to team up with Scotts Mircle-Gro and their  Find beauty in the Fall project, I was pretty excited. Fall can be a tricky time of year to plant it seems like everything starts dying and turning ugly and brown. However there are some plants you can plant to help make your garden lovely all Fall long. 

I went to Fall Plant and Feed to check out the Fall gardening tips. To see what we should plant for our region. Then I went over to our good friend Richard's house to get some planting inspiration and tips. 

The first plant to catch my eye was the Mums. Mums bloom in the fall (even though if you buy them at a nursery like we did the first year they will bloom early since the nursery grows them in a greenhouse and they get confused on the season) All summer long they will be a beautiful and full green bush that is a lovely addition to any garden and then in the fall they bloom with lovely pops of color. 

To plant a mum:

1. Select a mum plant from your local nursery.

2. Pick up some Flower/Vegtable Garden Soil

3. Mix the Flower/Vegtable Garden Soil in with your ground soil. 

4. Plant Mum into the ground. 

5. Use Liquafeed to help everything grow beautifully. 

 

Another tip I picked up from our visit with Richard was to plant Zinnias

 

Zinnias are prennials that you plant each year. You can plant them in the spring and they bloom all summer and into the fall, they keep their bright colored blooms until the first frost. Which for us is the end of Fall. It is a great way to add color and would accent well with the Mum plants that would bloom later in the year.
